It’s possible and maybe even likely that Drew Peterson will be charged with the 1994 murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. And, since police have shifted the search for a missing person to a search for the body of Drew’s fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, he could ultimately be charged with her murder too.
Yet, former police officer Drew Peterson has appeared to remain calm, confident, and as some say, cocky and arrogant since being quickly labeled the prime suspect in Stacy’s mysterious disappearance from the couple’s home October 28, 2007.
Speaking of Drew’s confidence on her show that aired May 21, 2008, host Nancy Grace asked former DC Police Detective and CNN Law Enforcement Analyst, Mike Brooks, “ Every time a body is found, he`s sure that`s not Stacy Peterson. How is he so sure unless he knows?”
Brooks agreed that she was right. However, in Peterson’s defense, he added that “they have not found anything as of yet,” referring to Stacy’s body. He reminded Grace that Peterson is only a suspect who has not been charged with anything.
When Grace posed the question to psychologist, Caryn Stark, she told Grace that Peterson, “is a very narcissistic, self-absorbed man,” who “clearly knows something.” She explained that Drew doesn’t care what people think. She said that his behavior is sociopathic, and that “he doesn’t really believe in right from wrong.”
An Ohio caller, identified only as Denise, was “appalled” and “confused” by all the limelight the media is giving Peterson. She complained that he loves it. Although she agreed with Denise, Grace pointed out how Peterson will never answer “tough questions.”
Grace told attorney Stark that Peterson is “always bringing attention to himself,” and mentioned the “Win a Date Drew Peterson” contest. She told Stark that Peterson is always either on a television show or radio show. Stark explained to Nancy Grace that whether positive or negative, Drew needs people’s attention, and that it’s part of his “narcissistic personality.”
Grace asked attorney, Susan Moss why they continue to allow Peterson out in the public eye when he keeps making himself “look evasive and shifty.” Citing Peterson’s interview with the “Today” show’s Matt Lauer, she said,Drew “played an excellent game of dodgeball.” Moss told Grace that Peterson “wants to be seen” and “known,” saying that despite all the warnings he’s been given by lawyers, he just “can’t help himself.”
Attorney John Burris told Grace that he believes Peterson’s public appearances have not caused him any harm, and said, “Frankly, there`s nothing he has done so far in terms of admissions that are going to come back to haunt him.”
When Grace asked him about Peterson’s repeated behavior, citing “another gun, and another 22-year-old girlfriend,” Burris admitted that the authorities would interrogate Drew’s new girlfriend very closely looking for MOs – Methods of Operation. He explained that they would want to show “he likes women of a certain age and certain things happen after a certain period of time.” But, Burris also said that at this time they don’t have that evidence.
After all the media appearances and statements that Peterson has made publicly, he now has the nerve to complain about people’s reactions to his behavior.
An Illinois caller, identified as Denise told Grace that Drew Peterson requested that the “Find Stacy Peterson” web site blog be taken down because he didn’t like what the public had to say. The caller complained about Peterson’s attitude, saying he was laughing and joking with “that smirk.”
“America’s Most Wanted” correspondent, Jon Leiberman told Grace that the blog portion of the site was taken down because Peterson and his attorney were being threatened, according to what they told federal authorities. Leiberman did agree with the caller about Drew smiling over all of it.
Only time will give us the answer to the question of whether Drew’s public actions will cause him future harm.
